Starting salary for entry level patrol officers is $19.99/hour or $41,579.00/year with a 3 percent increase in 6 months to $20.59/hour or $42,832.00/year. 

Starting salary for experienced officers (Patrol II) starts at $21.99/hour or $45,740.00/year with a 3 percent increase in 6 months to $22.65/hour or $47,112.00/year. 

Paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation.  Free health insurance.  TMRS retirement-2/1 match @7 percent.  Department issued uniforms, duty weapon, leather, and holster.  Certificate pay from $1,000 to $1,800 per year based on level of certification.  TCOLE certified officers only need to apply.  Candidates who have received a Dishonorable Discharge from previous employers will not be eligible to apply.

Must be 21 years of age.  TCOLE certified.  Valid/clean driving record.  Able to work shift work, weekends, and holidays.  Must have high school diploma or have GED.  Must pass background investigation, written test, physical agility test, and oral review board.  Hiring process will include polygraph, psychological testing, and physical exam/drug screen.

The Clute Police Department will be conducting testing for the new position of Police Cadet on 10/05/2017 at 8:30 a.m.

Interested candidates can stop by the Clute Police Department to pick up an application or go to and click on the recruiting tab.  Then click on “application”.  Download the application and fill it out and return to Clute PD by 9:00 a.m. on 10/02/2017 to the attention of Sgt. Belinda Rickman.

Upon employment, the Clute Police Department will pay salary, benefits, and all law enforcement academy related costs for candidates to attend a local law enforcement academy which is anticipated to begin in January, 2018.

Testing will include a physical fitness test consisting of sit ups, pushups, and a 300 meter run, all based on age and gender.  Testing will also consist of a written test, oral review board, and a comprehensive background investigation which includes a polygraph examination. 

Candidates who successfully complete the background investigation will be given a conditional offer of employment with a salary of $17.00 per hour until graduation from the law enforcement academy.  The conditional offer of employment includes a medical examination, drug test, and psychological examination.

Upon successful graduation the Cadet will be promoted to Patrol Officer I with an annual salary of $43,658.00.  Upon completion of the Field Training Program followed by a 6 month probationary period, the Officer will receive a 3 percent salary increase.

Must be 18 year of age.  $13.89 per hour/19 hours per week.  Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.  Must have no criminal history and pass background investigation.  Must have good oral and written communication skills, have good public relations skills, and be able to get along with others.  Must have some computer knowledge.  Jailers are responsible for the safety of other jailers, police officers, and inmates.  No prior jailer experience is required as training is provided.
